Post-operative instructions after fissurectomy

 

A fissurectomy is a surgical procedure used to cure an anal fissure, a tear in the lining of the anal canal. An anal fissure forms because of chronic constipation that damages the inner lining of your anus. • Please complete the medicine course and take them exactly as prescribed by the best fissure doctor.
• If you prefer, you can take Sinarest, Combiflam, or Aleve.
• If you have a prescription for ketorolac, do not use Sinerest, Combiflam or Aleve.
• Ask the fissure surgeon when you should resume taking aspirin, warfarin (Coumadin), Plavix, or any other blood thinner.
• One tablespoon of Metamucil or Konsyl (fibre supplement, available over the counter) in 240 millilitres of water or juice twice a day. 
• Colace (over-the-counter stool softener) three times a day with a dosage of 50 to 150 mg for children and 240-300 mg for adults. 
• Sitz baths (warm water) at least four times daily for 15-20 minutes after each bowel movement. Use soap and water or unscented wipes instead of toilet paper after a bowel movement.
• If you do not have a bowel movement in two days, take two tablespoons of liquid Milk of Magnesia (available over the counter) with each meal until you do.
• To minimise constipation or stool impaction, it is recommended to include a high-fibre diet post-laser fissure surgery (cereal, wheat, bread, fresh fruits and vegetables), as well as taking one tablespoon of Metamucil with 8 ounces of water every morning and evening.
• You should take the Dulcolax stool softener (Docusate is the generic name) tablet twice daily.
