Circumcision surgery is a method of removing the skin covering the tip of the penis. After undergoing surgery, it is necessary to know the follow-up care to recover effectively and quickly. Here are some important tips you should follow post-surgery.

Follow-up care after the adolescent circumcision surgery

Diet:

After circumcision surgery, you can resume your usual diet. Mild nausea and vomiting may occur in the first 6-8 hours after surgery. This is generally related to anaesthetic side effects and will pass quickly. It is recommended to have a small dinner in the evening after the surgery.

Activity:

You should remain relatively inactive for the first 72 hours after surgery. Doctors would recommend walking around for a few minutes every two hours for proper blood circulation, but no other activity is recommended. After three days, you can resume your normal activities, but you should avoid high-impact physical work like jogging, skiing, or boating, as well as activities that exert direct pressure on the scrotum, like riding a motorbike for six weeks after stapler circumcision surgery

Dressing procedure:

For the first 48-72 hours, ice packs should be placed on the genitals for at least 15 minutes and repeat the procedure often. To prevent skin irritation, place a small cloth or towel between your skin and the ice pack. Ice helps to ease pain and reduce swelling.

Erections that occur while sleeping cannot be controlled. Therefore, some pain upon waking is normal. In certain cases, these erections might induce early stitch breakdown, resulting in protracted healing, i.e. limitations. They can also cause bleeding at times. If bleeding occurs, put sterilised cotton on the bleeding area for 10 minutes.

Generally, a wrap-around bandage is given to the penis. It will not be a problem if the bandage slips off after the procedure. If it hasn't already come off, you should remove the bandage on the second day following surgery.

Removing the dressing may be simpler if you first soak it in a bath or shower for 10 minutes before uncovering it fully. After removing the bandage, let your penis be exposed to air and apply Vaseline or bacitracin ointment to the sutures daily.

These are some important follow-up care you should apply after undergoing circumcision surgery.
