Circumcision is a surgical procedure to remove the foreskin of the penis. Removing the foreskin helps reduce the chances of developing urinary tract infection, STDs, balanitis, phimosis and more.
Due to such advantages and the availability of laser circumcision, more parents may choose to get their kids circumcised. However, they might have questions and concerns regarding post-circumcision care.
Therefore, we talked to some circumcision doctors in Kolkata to bring you valuable information regarding newborns, babies, and toddlers’ post-circumcision care.
Activity
After circumcision, toddlers can resume their normal activities such as walking, going outside and climbing stairs with supervision. Make sure to keep them away from rough play.
Check for Bleeding
A slight blood staining of the diaper is not a cause of concern. During the first 24 hours after circumcision, check the diaper when you change it for active bleeding. If you notice active bleeding, consult your doctor.
Bathing
You can bathe your child as usual after the second-day post-surgery. In the first two days following the surgery, you can give your child a sponge
bath. In the case of newborns, wait until the umbilical cord falls off, in about two weeks after their birth.
Pain Control
Infants may feel a little pain after the procedure, making them fussy. The pain usually ends within a couple of days. If you opt for laser circumcision in Kolkata, the amount of pain during and after surgery significantly reduces.
Infants feeling pain may cry and have trouble sleeping and eating. Your doctor will recommend pain medications to address the issue.
Wound Care
After circumcision treatment, the wound will probably be wrap-around with dressing. The dressing usually falls off on its own after surgery. However, if the dressing stays even after the second-day post-surgery, it should be removed manually.
Sit your son in the bath for 10 minutes to make the dressing soak water, making it easier to remove. After unravelling the bandage, leave the penis open to dry and apply the ointment recommended by your doctor to the penis several times a day.
The ointment prevents the dry edges of the incision from sticking to the diaper.
If you notice any oozing or bruising, do not be alarmed. This is part of the healing process. Applying gentle pressure with a tissue helps clean the oozing.
Circumcision helps reduce the chances of several penile conditions, including UTIs and STDs. Consider circumcision treatment near you.
